SEARCY, Ark. — Three straight games Southern Nazarene either matched or out hit Harding, but it wasn't until the third game that SNU finally picked up the win.
Â
It may have taken them 12 innings to do it, but the Crimson Storm scored an 8-5 in the final game of the three-game set after losing 6-4 in the first.
Â
All three games in the series came down the final inning and all three times it was SNU scoring in the top of the final inning to make things interesting.
Â
SNU made a late charge in the first game Sunday much like it dad Saturday. After SNU took a 1-0 lead in the first on a
Tyler Stevens sacrifice fly, Harding took its first lead at 2-1 with two in the second. The Bisons added one in fifth to lead 3-1, but SNU closed the gap with one in the top of the eighth on an
Anthony Wiggins single to right that scored Stevens.
Â
Harding broke loose in the bottom half of the inning with three insurance runs to lead 6-2. That's when SNU tried to mount its second rally in as many games.
Austin Cooper and
Dillon Feland opened the inning with back-to-back singles before a Harding error scored one run before a
Mike Descisciolo sac fly made it 6-4. SNU then had runners at the corners with two outs and the go-ahead at the plate, but Harding ended the first game Sunday like it did Saturday's game with a rain out.
Â
The Storm out hit Harding 10-9 and committed just one error compared to the Bisons' three, but SNU left 11 on base.
Cobi Ceron went 2-for-4 on the day while Feland and
Garrett Perez each went 2-for-5. Feland also scored two runs.
Â
Jefferson Harris (1-3) got the start and took the loss after giving up three runs on four hits. He struck out three in six innings of work.
Â
In the nightcap, the Storm jumped out in front in the top of the third on back-to-back singles from Perez and Descisciolo and led 3-0 with another Descisciolo single in the fifth. The Bison cut the lead to 3-2 in the bottom half of the inning and took their first lead of the game at 5-3 with three in the bottom of the sixth.
Â
SNU tied the game in the top of the seventh to force extra innings. It was the third straight game the Storm scored two in the final inning of regulation. Both errors came across on the only error Harding committed in the game.
Â
After four scoreless innings, SNU broke through in the 12
th with three. Descisciolo drove in the first run of the inning with a double to left before Wiggins drove home the final two runs on a single to left.
Â
Descisciolo finished 3-for-6 on the day with three RBIs and one run scored. Cooper went 2-for-4 with three runs scored. Wiggins also picked up the win after throwing eight innings of relief. He allowed three runs, none of which were earned, on five hits and straight out six.
David Gustafson got the start and gave up just two runs on two hits in four innings of work.
