MAGNOLIA, Ark. — Southern Nazarene's defense held Southern Arkansas to 21.9 percent shooting en route to a 72-42 win over the Muleriders Saturday afternoon.

Southern Nazarene (5-5, 2-4 GAC) started the game off on a 9-2 run capped by a Danielle Gaddis jumper. Southern Arkansas hit a 3-pointer to put the score at 9-5 with 5:23 remaining in the first quarter. The Storm dominated the remaining time left in the quarter as they finished on a 12-0 run highlighted by a Callee Mason 3-pointer to put the score at 21-5.

The Muleriders started the second quarter on a 10-5 run to put the score at 26-15 with 4:40 remaining in the half. SNU ended the half on a 13-3 run to put the score at 39-18 at intermission. The Storm shot 42.1 percent from the field on 16-of-38 shooting. Southern Nazarene's defense gave Southern Arkansas problems as the Muleriders struggled to score in the first half. SAU shot 17.9 percent on 5-of-28 shooting.

The third quarter, just like the first and second quarters, belonged to Southern Nazarene. The Storm outscored Southern Arkansas 15-9 on their way to doubling up the Muleriders 54-27. SNU finished the game on an 18-15 run to put the final score at 72-42. Southern Nazarene finished the game shooting 36.5 percent on 27-of-74 shooting while Southern Arkansas shot 21.9 percent on 14-of-64 shooting. SNU also shot 7-of-23 from behind the arc. Also, just like the previous game, the Storm made their presence known in the paint as they out rebounded SAU 61-43 and out scored the Muleriders 36-16 in the paint. Southern Nazarene also forced 14 turnovers and scored 20 points off of those mistakes.

The Storm had three players reach double-figures, led by Kandyce Freeman who scored 16 points and added five rebounds. Abby Boyd also scored 16 points and added four rebounds and four assists. Mason was the only other player to reach double figures; she tallied ten points and notched five rebounds. Gaddis led the team in rebounds with 13 and Irene Perez recorded a career high 12 rebounds.
