Storm Drops Opener at Tech

SNU fell 46-0 in the 2016 season opener at Arkansas Tech

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. — Noah Wells and Breyon Jackson combined for 26 tackles as Wells led the way for Southern Nazarene with 14 in a 46-0 loss at Arkansas Tech to open the 2016 season.

Jacob Spady ran for 74 yards on seven carries and threw for 30 yards as he was 6-for-8 passing on the night. Reese Carlson was the top target for Spady as the sophomore transfer recorded 20 yards receiving on three catches.

The Crimson Storm (0-1, 0-1 GAC) totaled 163 yards, 133 of which came on the ground. SNU was held to 30 yards passing. The Wonder Boys (1-0, 1-0 GAC) nearly had a completely balanced offense with 204 yards rushing and 287 yards passing for a total of 491 yards.

SNU did have two drives into the red zone in the second half, and both got inside the Tech 15-yard line. The Storm opened the second half with an 8-play drive that reached all the way to the ATU 8-yard line. The drive included a 51-yard run by Spady to get in the red zone, but the Storm stalled out with a turnover on downs.

The Storm's final drive of the game put SNU within striking distance again after six plays put the Storm with a third-and-one at the ATU 11-yard line. Zach Walker though was picked off by Greg Abrams and the Wonder Boys ran out the clock from there.
