SNU Splits Saturday

Storm takes first, Tigers take second game of doubleheader

BETHANY, Okla. — Southern Nazarene came out on fire in a 7-2 win over East Central in the first game of a Saturday doubleheader, but ran out of gas in the second game as it fell 17-2.
 
The Crimson Storm (22-24, 13-21 GAC) jumped on the Tigers (21-24, 18-16 GAC) in the first game as SNU scored seven runs on eight hits. Jill Clemence led the way going 3-for-5 with a run scored while Katelyn Brown went 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Emily Idler also went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a run scored.
 
Kayla Wyatt (14-10) picked up the win as she gave up just two runs on seven hits in the complete-game outing.
 
Southern Nazarene took the first lead of the game with two in the bottom of the first on a pair of bases-loaded walks. The Tigers cut it to 2-1 in the top of the third and then tied it in the top of the fourth on a leadoff home run. The Crimson Storm retook the lead in the bottom of the fourth on two more bases-loaded walks to make it 4-2. SNU put the game on ice in the bottom of the sixth though when Emily Idler smashed her first career home run to put the Storm up 7-2.
 
In the nightcap, ECU broke the game wide open in the top of the third with eight runs. The Storm scored one in the bottom third, but the Tigers scored eight more in the fourth to lead 16-1. SNU got one in the bottom of the fourth on a Jill Clemence single, but ECU answered right back with on in the top of the fifth to lead 17-2.
 
Brown led the way going 3-for-3 with an RBI. She also fell to 7-12 on the year in the circle after she gave up 11 runs, six earned, on nine hits in 3.2 innings of work.
