BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Southern Nazarene's season came to a close as sixth-seeded Henderson State knocked off SNU 2-1 in the loser's bracket of the GAC Championships.
Â
As expected, it was a pitcher's duel as GAC's strikeout leader,
Kayla Wyatt, and the 2015 GAC Pitcher of the Year Michelle Sorensen battled it out in the circle.
Â
Wyatt went the distance as she struck out six and gave up just two runs, one earned, but Sorensen gave up just one run on three hits in the complete-game. Wyatt did become the first pitcher in GAC history to record 300 strikeouts in a season with her first strikeout. She also finishes as the only pitcher in GAC history with 700 or more strikeouts.
Â
The Reddies took a 2-0 lead with one in the third and the fourth before the Storm got on the board in the top of the fifth when
Hannah LeBeau ripped a single up the middle to score
Hope Martin to cut it to 2-1.
Sam Smith and Martin had the other two hits for the Storm as Wyatt,
Jill Clemence,
Jessica Thompson and
Kylee Webb all played their last games for SNU.
Â
It was the second straight year the Storm reached the second day of the GAC Championships, but fell in the first game of the day.
