SNU Splits with Ouachita

Southern Nazarene gets one step closer to GAC Championships with split

BETHANY, Okla. — Kayla Wyatt hit another career milestone for Southern Nazarene in a 3-2 in over Ouachita, before SNU fell 4-3 in the second game of a Friday doubleheader.

Wyatt (17-12) notched her 700th career strikeout with her fifth strikeout of the day as the senior recorded the complete game and she tossed all seven innings. She finished with 10 strikeouts and allowed just two runs, neither of which were earned, on four hits. She becomes the 13th active pitcher in Division II with 700 career strikeouts.

Sydni Toilolo pushed the Storm's first run across the plate as she laced a double to left field to score Jill Clemence and give SNU a 1-0 lead. Sam Smith made it 2-0 in the bottom of the third when she and Toilolo worked a double steal. Toilolo then came around to score on a dropped third strike that was a wild pitch to give the Storm a 3-0 lead.

Ouachita got two back in the top of the fourth, but Wyatt held them scoreless from there. Sydni Toilolo had the lone hit for the Storm.

The Tigers took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second in the nightcap, but SNU tied it in the bottom of the fourth on a single to center by Hope Martin. The Tigers bounced back with a two-run shot to left center to make it 4-2 in the top of the sixth.

Emily Idler helped cut the score to 4-3 in the bottom of the sventh with a single through the right side, but the Storm left two stranded in the loss.

Toilolo and Martin each went 2-for-3 with a run scored. Katelyn Brown (8-14) took the loss after giving up four runs, three earned, on eight hits in seven innings of work.
