SNU takes sixth seed at GAC Championships

BETHANY, Okla. — The Great American Conference has released its bracket for the 2016 GAC Men's Basketball Championships and Southern Nazarene will take on Ouachita in the first round.
 
The Crimson Storm will take the No. 6 seed after it finished 12-10 in the conference. SNU will play the first game of the day Thursday at noon against the No. 3 seed Tigers (16-12, 16-6 GAC) at the Bruin Fieldhouse in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. The Storm split the season series with Ouachita this year as SNU won 87-74 in Bethany before falling 82-72 in Arkadelphia. It will also be the first time the Crimson Storm have played Ouachita in the postseason. SNU is 6-4 all-time against the Tigers.
 
It is the second straight year SNU has reached the GAC Championships. The Storm were the seventh seed last year and lost 78-58 to second-seeded East Central the quarterfinals. Southern Nazarene is on the same side of the bracket as East Central again as the second-seeded Tigers plays seventh-seeded Arkansas Tech in the rematch of last years GAC Championship game. SNU was swept by East Central this season and split with Tech this year. The Tigers play the Wonder Boys at 2:15 p.m.
 
Harding takes the top seed in the tournament and will play Northwestern Oklahoma State, who will make their debut in the GAC Championships, at 5:45 p.m. SNU split with both the Bisons and Rangers in the season series. The final game Thursday will be fourth-seeded Southwestern Oklahoma State and fifth-seeded Southern Arkansas at 8 p.m. SNU split the season series with Southwestern and was swept by Southern Arkansas.
 
SNU is 104-75 all-time against the field and 4-8 against the field this year.
