Terminating the Bugs

Southern Nazarene completes season sweep of Arkansas-Monticello

MONTICELLO, Ark. — Southern Nazarene had four players in double figures and Francisco Hukill notched his third double-double of the season in a 62-45 win at Arkansas-Monticello.
 
Hukill scored a team-high 13 points and added 10 rebounds as the Crimson Storm (13-14, 12-9 GAC) locked up at least the sixth seed in the Great American Conference Championships. SNU can finish as high as fourth with a win Saturday and Southwestern Oklahoma State loss.
 
Three other players each had 10 points as Deshon Portley, CJ Rodriguez and Anton Kankaanpaa all scored 10 points as SNU shot 42.3 percent from the field and went 10-for-12 at the free-throw line. Portley added eight rebounds and four assists while Kankaanpaa added six rebounds. C.J. White also had nine points and six rebounds.
 
Southern Nazarene held Monticello to just 33.3 percent from the field and 4-for-17 from 3-point range.
 
The Storm jumped out to an 11-2 lead to start the game and were up 18-9 when the Boll Weevils went on a 9-0 run to tie it at 18 with 6:33 left in the first half. UAM tied it three more times and that included a 24-24 tie at the half. Monticello took its first lead right out of the gate of the second half at 26-24, but it only led two more times.
 
The second time came at 35-34 with 12:44 to play before a Rodriguez 3-pointer ignited a 14-3 run that was capped by a Hukill layup to give SNU a 48-38 lead with 6:35 remaining. The Storm led 50-42 before it closed the night with a 12-3 run to put the game on ice.
