Eagles Shot Down in Storm

Southern Nazarene snaps two-game losing streak with win over Oklahoma Christian

BETHANY, Okla.— Southern Nazarene snapped a two game-losing skid with a 81-65 win over Oklahoma Christian Tuesday evening.
 
Abby Boyd, Adrienne Berry and Rachel Doerneman combined for 49 points and 28 rebounds for the Crimson Storm (3-4, 0-3 GAC). Boyd scored a game high 25 points and added six rebounds, and five assists. She went 7-for-13 from the field and 4-for-8 from beyond the arc. She was also 7-for-8 from the free-throw line. Berry recorded a double-double as she tallied 12 points and added a career high 13 rebounds. Doerneman added 12 points and nine rebounds.
 
Southern Nazarene got off to a hot start as they opened the game on a 13-5 run capped by a Berry 3-pointer. The Storm started 8-for-21 from the field for 38.0 percent. SNU was able to hold the Eagles (3-6) to 5-of-19 shooting for 26.3 percent. At the end of the first quarter the Storm led 20-12.
 
The Storm extended its lead 17 points as they opened the second quarter on an 11-2 run to put the score at 31-14 with 4:29 remaining in the first half. The Storm ended the first half shooting 42.4 percent on 14-of-33 from the field. Southern Nazarene was able to hold Oklahoma Christian under 30 percent shooting in the first half as the Eagles shot 26.7 percent on 8-of-30 field goals. The Crimson Storm shot 4-for-10 from behind the arc and 7-for-12 from the free throw line in the first half.
 
The Crimson Storm were able to build their largest lead of the game as they found themselves up 20 points with 6:42 remaining in the third quarter. The Eagles however, were able to claw their way back into the game as they trimmed the lead down to 12 points after going on a 14-6 run to put the score at 56-44 with 1:48 remaining in the third quarter. The Eagles ended the quarter on a 5-2 run putting the score at 58-49 and pulling within nine points of the Storm, the closest the Eagles had been since the 8:41 minute mark of the second quarter.
 
Oklahoma Christian was able to pull within nine one more time in the fourth quarter at 64-55 with 4:48 remaining in regulation, but that's as close as the Eagles would get as the Storm started to put the game away. SNU ended the game on a 17-10 run to give Southern Nazarene a 81-65 win.
 
Southern Nazarene finished the game shooting 44.8 percent from the field on 26-of-58 shooting. SNU shot 43.8 percent from behind the arc as they made 7-of-16 3-pointers. The Storm also shot 81.5 percent from the line as they made 22-27 free throws. Oklahoma Christian shot 35.4 percent on 23-65 shooting, while shooting 25.0 percent from 3-point range on 4-16 shooting.

The Storm out rebounded OC 45-32 and forced 16 turnovers, scoring 16 points off those miscues.
