CLAREMORE, Okla. — Southern Nazarene used a 20 point outing from
Abby Boyd to get their first win off the season with a 70-62 victory over Rogers State Tuesday night.

Adrienne Berry, and
Rachel Doerneman combined for 52 points and 22 rebounds for the Crimson Storm (1-2, 0-2 GAC). Boyd scored a game high 20 points and added six rebounds, and six assists. She went 5-for-13 from the field and 4-for-7 from beyond the arc. She was also 6-for-8 from the free-throw line. Berry had 19 points and eight rebounds as she went 6-of-12 from the floor, 3-for-6 from beyond the arc, and 4-for-5 from the line. Doerneman added 13 and eight rebounds as she shot 5-for-8 from the floor and 3-for-6 from the free throw line.

SNU as a team shot 39.7 percent from the field, 24 points coming in the paint. The Storm also added nine 3-pointers on 22 attempts. The Storm struggled from the free throw line as they made just 15-for-29 for 51.7 percent. Southern Nazarene had a difficult time defending the paint as they gave up 42 points in the paint. The Hillcats (2-3) were held to 33.8 percent shooting from the field. SNU forced 22 turnovers and had 18 points off those miscues.

The Storm opened the game with a 20-4 run capped by back-to-back 3-pointers from Boyd. The Hillcats went on an 11-4 run to bring the score to 24-15 at the end of the first quarter. Boyd led all scorers with nine points as she sunk three 3-pointers.

RSU clawed it's way back within five points when Kindred Natasha hit a layup to bring the score to 26-21 with 4:42 remaining in the first half. SNU ended the opening half on a 12-4 run highlighted by a layup
Irene Perez sunk right before the buzzer. The Crimson Storm led 38-25 at half as they shot 43.8 percent from the field and making 7-of-15 for 46.7 percent from the 3-point line. Boyd led the Storm in scoring with 12 points in the first half, Berry chipped in 11 points and three rebounds.

The Storm led the entire second half, the closest RSU got was within five and that came in the fourth quarter as SNU led 67-62 after Nikola Nedoroscikova hit two free throws for the Hillcats. Southern Nazarene's struggles from the free throw line allowed the Hillcats to get that close, however Boyd was able to hit 3-of-4 free throws to put the game away. Giving the Storm a 70-62 victory.
