BETHANY, Okla. — Southern Nazarene couldn't overcome 56 different errors on the night in a 3-2 (21-25, 26-24, 27-29, 25-18, 15-11) loss at home to Southeastern Oklahoma State.
The Crimson Storm (12-10, 7-5 GAC) had 32 hitting errors, 15 service errors, three receiving errors and six blocking errors on the night. SNU did out dig the Savage Storm (10-15, 3-9 GAC), 93-92, and matched them in blocks at five, but hit just .166 on the night.
Courtney Bowie led the way for SNU as she hit .415 with a career-high 21 kills.
Lexie Matthews had 13 kills and a career-high four aces while
Kaitlyn Vought had 11 to go with a pair of blocks.
Bailee Turang had 10 kills and 14 digs along with two blocks as well.
Elyse Berlin had 53 assists and 16 digs.
Abbey Bell had a match-high 25 digs while
Hannah Davis had 15 and
Kylie Smith had 10.
Southern Nazarene hit .312 in the first set led by a .750 from
Courtney Bowie who had six kills in just eight swings in the set.
Elyse Berlin also had 14 assists in the set. There were 10 ties and seven lead changes in the first set. Neither team led by more than three until SNU broke a 21-21 tie with four straight points that included a
Makenna Hunter kill and a
Lexie Matthews ace.
The Storm were held to a .089 clip in the second set and had to battle from behind for the majority of the set. SNU held a 21-20 lead when Southeastern scored three straight to take a 23-21 lead. SOSU had set point at 24-22, but SNU got back-to-back kills from Berlin and
Kaitlyn Vought to tie it at 24. The Savage Storm though put it away though with two straight to tie the match at 1-1.
There were 16 ties and seven lead changes in the third set alone and seven of those came late in the set with ties from 23 to 27 before SNU got a couple of breaks off Southeastern errors to take a 2-1 lead in the match.
The Savage Storm thought jumped out to a 14-5 lead to start the fourth set and cruised to the win to tie the match at 2-2.
It was all Southeastern in the final set as it hit .278 and held the Crimson Storm to a .048 clip.
