SHAWNEE, Okla. — Courtney Bowie had 14 kills for Southern Nazarene in a 3-1 (25-23, 25-22, 21-25, 25-9) loss at Oklahoma Baptist Thursday night to end the regular season.
Â
The Crimson Storm (15-16, 11-5 GAC) will close the regular season in third place in the conference and will take the second seed in the GAC Championships as the Bison (19-11, 15-2 GAC) are ineligible for GAC or NCAA postseason play.
Â
Bowie hit .200 and also added five blocks on the night.
McKayla Benner was the only other SNU player with double-figure kills as she had 11 to go with seven blocks.
Elyse Berlin had 34 assists and was just one dig shy of a double-double with nine.
Kaitlyn Vought had eight kills, 14 digs, four blocks and two aces.
Â
Abbey Bell had 25 digs while
Hannah Davis had 18 and
McKenna Yablon had 12. Davis also had a pair of blocks.
Â
The Bison held SNU to a .081 clip (45-31-172), but the Storm out blocked OBU 12-10. Oklahoma Baptist had 89 digs compared to 86 form the Storm.
Â
OBU opened the match with an 11-4 run, but the storm scored seven straight to tie it at 11. The Bison never had more than a two-point lead the rest of the set, but SNU just couldn't take the lead. After the 11-11 tie, it was tied five more times and SNU came as close at 24-23, but the Bison scored the last point to lead 1-0.
Â
The Bison again tried to extend a lead as they held a 17-12 advantage in the second set, and once again SNU answered with a late run. The Storm tied the match at 20 with an 8-3 run capped by a Vought ace, but the Bison again hung on to take a 2-0 lead.
Â
The Storm rebounded in the third set and led from start to finish. Bowie had six of her kills and two blocks for seven points in the third set alone. The Bison though closed out the fourth set to end the regular season.
