Southern Nazarene picked up a big win over Arkansas Tech

BETHANY, Okla. — For the first time since the 2012-13 season, Southern Nazarene knocked off Arkansas Tech with a 70-62 victory inside the Sawyer Center Saturday.

The win snapped a two-game losing skid inside the Sawyer Center and gave the Crimson Storm (8-6, 4-4 GAC) its first win over a Great American Conference opponent since Dec. 13.

Garrett Butler scored a game-high 16 points to lead the way while Jordan Watson had a season-high 11 points off of the bench. Butler went 6-for-10 from the field and went 4-for-8 from 3-point range. Watson went 4-for-5 from the field, 3-for-3 at the line, pulled down four rebounds and had two blocks. LB Willis also had 11 points and dished out eight assists and pulled in seven rebounds. He also had two steals. CJ Rodriguez added 10 points off of the bench with five coming at the line.

Eight of the nine players that played for SNU put points on the board as the storm went 21-for-50 from the field and went 8-for-19 from downtown. SNU also hit 20 of its 29 attempts at the free-throw line. Arkansas Tech hit 19-for-61 form the floor and hit 8-for-29 from beyond the arc.

The two traded eight leads in the first 15 minutes of the game before Watson sparked a 19-4 run, capped by a Butler trey, to close the half and put SNU up 36-22 at the break. The Storm took its biggest lead of the contest less than a minute into the second half on a Dartanyon Meggs jumper to lead 38-22, but ATU began to whittle away at the lead. The Storm led 44-31 with 12:45 left before the Wonder Boys scored 10 straight to make it 44-41 with 10:41 left and cut it to 45-43 with 9:41 to play.

The Crimson Storm were able to stretch it back to 62-52 with 3:13, but ATU wouldn't go away. The Wonder Boys closed it to five three different times with the last coming at 67-62 with 39 seconds to play, but SNU hit free throws down the stretch to put it away.
