BETHANY, Okla. — Javier Caballeros scored two goals, including one off a pass from his brother
Mario Caballeros, in a 2-0 win over No. 23 Fort Hays State. It was Southern Nazarene's first win over a Division II ranked opponent since SNU joined the MIAA.
The Crimson Storm (2-5-0, 1-1-0 MIAA) scored early in the first half as Javier put Mario's pass into the net in the 12
th minute. Fort Hays State (2-3-1, 1-1-0 MIAA) was aggressive in the first half as they attempted ten shots and put four of them on goal.
Â
Javier scored his second goal of the game on a great shot from 30 yards out off a pass from
Freddy DiNang in the 78
th minute to give the Crimson Storm a 2-0 lead. It was the second time in his career that Javier has scored twice in a game. The Tigers were unable to put any of their nine shots in the second half in the net.
Â
"It was great to see Javier step up and get two for us and he almost got a third,"
said Head Coach George Schroeder. "It would have been really neat to see him get a hat trick. He did a great job and worked hard for us the entire game. He made a big difference in our backline. Javier played a full game and that helped our entire backline to hold the other team scoreless."
Â
The Tigers attempted 19 shots with five of them being on goal. The Crimson Storm attempted 16 shots in the game with five being on goal.
Â
SNU's
Jeff Ray recorded five saves in his first career shutout. FHSU's Kent Freund recorded three saves.
Â
"We were finally able to put a solid game together from start to finish," said Schroeder. "We have struggled for a while starting games with a little bit of momentum. We finally got that accomplished the last few games, but we could never finish a game. We finally put together a full game and came up with a couple of good saves. It was a good win for us."

Up next for Southern Nazarene is a home match against MIAA member No. 15 Northeastern State Thursday at 7 p.m.
