Senior Day Ends Season

Southern Nazarene dropped a senior day doubleheader

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 BETHANY, Okla. — Southern Nazarene just missed out again Saturday with Arkansas Tech as SNU lost two, one-run games falling 2-1 and 7-6 in the final two games of the year.

The Crimson Storm (19-34, 12-26 GAC) were 7-4 in one-run games coming into the weekend, but the Golden Suns (31-25, 19-21 GAC) took three of the four-game set by one run.

In the opener, Southern Nazarene broke the scoreless tie in the bottom of the fourth when Kylie Lang hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Kylee Webb as SNU took a 1-0 lead. Tech though picked up two in the top of the fifth with a two-run shot to left center to lead 2-1.

That was all Sydnee Clark needed as she gave up just one run on six hits in the complete game appearance. Kayla Wyatt (13-12) gave up just two runs on three hits in the complete game and struck out seven. All six of SNU's hits came from different players.

In the nightcap, ATU took a 2-0 lead with a two-run home run in the top of the first. The Golden Suns added three more in the top of the third to lead 5-0, but SNU got three in the bottom half of the inning to cut it to 5-3. SNU scored the first run of the inning when Kat Lerma was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded before Lang laced a double down the right field line to plate two more runs.

The Storm closed the gap to 5-4 on Hannah LeBeau's second home run of the year, a solo shot to left in the bottom of the fourth. The Golden Suns answered with a run in the top of the fifth and sixth to lead 7-4. The Crimson Storm answered in the bottom of the sixth when Megan Blevens doubled to right center to make it 7-5. Saydi Dowd made it a one-run game in the top of the seventh when she launched a leadoff home run to left for her third home run of the year.

That was as close as SNU came though. Kayla Wyatt (13-13) took the loss after giving up five runs on four hits in three innings of work. Lang led the way going 4-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored. Blevens, LeBeau and Saydi Dowd all went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Dowd also scored two runs.
