Storm, Muleriders Split Doubleheader

Southern Nazarene picked up a big win in the first game of a GAC doubleheader

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 BETHANY, Okla. — Lindy Fluman went 4-for-7 on the day with two RBIs and a run scored as Southern Nazarene split a conference doubleheader with Southern Arkansas. The Crimson Storm (19-28, 12-20 GAC) picked up a 4-3 win over the Muleriders in the opener before falling 7-3 in the nightcap.
 
Each team had just one hit and no runs through the top of the third before Saydi Dowd blooped a singled down the right field line to break the scoreless tie and put SNU up 2-0 in the bottom of the fourth. Megan Blevens then put the Storm up 4-0 when she blasted her second home run of the year to left center in the bottom of the fifth.
 
Southern Arkansas gave the Crimson Storm a scare in the top of the seventh when Maddie Dow launched a three-run bomb to cut the deficit to one run, but Kayla Wyatt threw just one more pitch to pick up the win. The sophomore moved to 13-9 on the year as she picked up her seventh straight win. She gave up just three runs, all in the seventh inning, on four hits and struck out eight in her 18th complete game of the year.
 
Lindy Fluman went 2-for-3 with a run scored while Lang, Blevens and Dowd all had hits.
 
Whitney Linder broke the scoreless tie for SNU in the bottom of the second when she ripped her sixth home run of the year to straight away center to give the Storm a 1-0 lead. The Muleriders tied it in the top of the third with a run, but SNU answered back in the bottom of the third when Lindy Fluman hit a two-out double to right center to give the Storm a 2-1 lead. Kyndall Freer-Christopher then laced a single through the left side to give Southern Nazarene a 3-1 advantage.
 
Southern Arkansas though answered big in the top of the fifth with four runs to take a 5-3 lead and added two more in the sixth to hold a 7-3 score and picked up the win.
 
Freer-Christopher went 2-for-3 with an RBI while Fluman went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Andee Frazier (5-13) took the loss after giving up four runs, none of which were earned, and did not allow a hit in 2.2 innings of work. SNU gave up four errors in the loss.
 
The Crimson Storm and Muleriders will close out the four-game set, Saturday, with a 12 p.m. doubleheader.
