Kat Lerma hit her first career home run Friday

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MONTICELLO, Ark. — Southern Nazarene picked up a 4-1 win the first game of a doubleheader before Arkansas-Monticello shutout SNU in the second game 4-0.
 
Kayla Wyatt struck out nine and gave up just one run on three hits in a complete game showing for the Crimson Storm (16-25, 10-18). The sophomore faced just 29 batters. Kat Lerma led the way offensively as the senior went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored. Kylie Lang also scored two runs while going 1-for-3.
 
SNU pushed a run across early as Lang scored on a UAM error to give the Storm a 1-0 lead. The Cotton Blossoms tied it in the bottom of the third, but the Storm took the lead for good with two in the top of the fifth. Lerma gave the Storm a 2-1 lead with her first career home run before Whitney Linder singled to short to put SNU up 3-1. Southern Nazarene scored another insurance run in the top of the sixth when Lerma doubled to right field to score Larisa Rivera.
 
That was all Wyatt needed to pick up the win and move to 10-9 on the year.
 
Monticello took the first lead of the nightcap with one in the first and then added three more in the third while scattering just five hits for SNU. UAM's Katie Slaughter struck out five and gave up just five hits in the complete-game shutout.
 
Ashley Potter (1-4) got the start as she gave up four runs on six hits in 2.2 innings of work. Andee Frazier threw 3.1 innings of relief, giving up two hits. Lang went 2-for-3 in the loss.
 
The Crimson Storm and Cotton Blossoms close out their series, Saturday, with a 12 p.m. doubleheader.
