SNU Takes Opener, Drops Nightcap

Storm split the opening series with SWOSU

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 WEATHERFORD, Okla. — Southern Nazarene's bats came alive in the opener of a doubleheader split with Southwestern Oklahoma State as SNU won 9-4, but SWOSU got a no-hitter in a 3-0 win in the nightcap.

In the opener, Southwestern took the first lead of the game with a run in the bottom of the first, but the Storm struck back in the top of the third when Hannah LeBeau singled to right center to score Kylie Lang and Lindy Fluman. The Bulldogs answered in the bottom of the third to tie it at 2-2.

SNU pushed two more across in the fourth with a pair of bases loaded walk to go up 4-3 through four and added two more in the fifth on a Sam Smith double to left center and a sacrifice fly by Fluman to lead 6-4 through five. The Storm put it away in the seventh though with three runs. Fluman drove in the first run with her second sac fly of the day and SNU took advantage of a SWOSU error and a wild pitch to push the lead to 9-4.

Smith led the way for SNU, going 3-for-3 with an RBI and three runs scored. Kylee Webb also went 2-for-4 with a run scored. LeBeau also went 1-for-3 with three RBIs. The Storm had eight different players combined for the 11 hits in the win.

Kayla Wyatt (4-3) went the distance as she gave up four runs, three earned, on six hits and struck out for.

In the nightcap, Southwestern scored two runs in the bottom of the first and another in the third and that was all SWOSU's Julianne Martinez needed as she tossed a no-hitter and was just a walk and a hit batter away from a perfect game.

SNU's Kylie Lang (0-1) took the loss as SNU moved to 7-8 overall and 2-4 in the Great American Conference.

The Storm and Bulldogs wrap up the four-game set, Saturday, with a 12 p.m. doubleheader.
