Box Score 2 BENTONVILLE, Ark. — After two days of splitting games at the UAM 8-State Classic, Southern Nazarene picked up a sweep in two tight games, shutting out Nebraska-Kearney 1-0, before holding off Upper Iowa for a 3-2 win.Â
In the opener, the Storm jumped on the board first in the top of the first when
Hannah LeBeau laced a single to left center to score
Lindy Fluman as SNU took a 1-0 lead.Â
The one-run lead stood from start to finish as freshman
Andee Frazier pitched her first shutout of the year. She gave up just two hits and struck out three, while walking just one, in seven innings of work. LeBeau led the way going 2-for-3 with a walk. The Storm had eight hits from seven different players.
In the nightcap, SNU was held hitless until the top of the fourth. The Storm trailed 1-0 through four innings, but took the lead with three in the top of the fifth.
Kacey Acker tied the game on an Upper Iowa error and then
Kylee Webb singled to right to put the Storm up 2-1 before Fluman drove in the final run of the inning to put SNU up 3-1.Â
The Peacocks cut it to 3-2 in the sixth and had two runners on in the seventh with two outs, but
Kayla Wyatt struck out the final batter for the win. Wyatt struck out five total and gave up just two runs on 10 hits in the complete game outing.Â
"This is what we've expected from our pitching staff," said SNU Head Coach
Tere Webber. "It's a process. We're young on both sides of pitching and catching. It's only going to get better. We are pleased with the staff overall. Ashley (Potter) has come in and gave us some good innings."
Webb went 2-for-3 with an RBI while Fluman went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
"We're figuring it out," said Webber. "We have a lot of crucial spots that need to be filled and we just need to figure that out. We are pushing each other and working hard."
