SNU Falls To Arkansas-Monticello

SNU fell by five Saturday afternoon

Box Score MONTICELLO, Ark. — Arkansas-Monticello forced Southern Nazarene into 23 turnovers scoring 29 points off the Crimson Storm's errors as the Cotton Blossoms knocked off SNU in a Great American Conference match up 71-66.
 
SNU (10-12, 7-9) opened the second half on a 7-0 run to tie the game at 38-38. The Storm retook the lead for the first time in the second half at the 11:49 mark after Callee Cox drilled a 3-pointer putting SNU on top 45-44. SNU and the Cotton Blossoms went back and forth until the Storm reached their largest lead of the game going up by seven with only 5:09 left to play.
 
The Cotton Blossoms (6-16, 2-14 GAC) though, tied the game at the 1:41 mark 63-63 after Monique Biggins made a free throw. AMU then took the lead 65-63 with 1:40 left to play off of two free throws by Raija McWright. The Storm answered with a jumper by Kristin Milster tying the game at 65-65. SNU regained the lead after Abby Boyd hit a free throw giving the Storm a 66-65 advantage with only 1:05 left to play. Wright then hit two more free throws giving the Cotton Blossoms the lead 67-66 and SNU never scored again. Arkansas-Monticello hit four straight free throws to close out the game and hold on for the win.
 
Aminata Fall led the way for SNU scoring 14 points shooting 7-of-14 from the field pulling down 14 rebounds. Danielle Gaddis tied a career high with 12 points and grabbed a career high seven rebounds. Cox tallied 11 points and went 3-for-8 from downtown while Milster and Almond scored 10 points apiece. Almond's ten points were a career high.
 
The Storm shot 44.6 percent from the field going 25-for-56 and buried seven 3-pointers going 7-of-16 from downtown shooting 43.8 percent. SNU went to the free throw line 11 times hitting nine of them and scored 28 points in the paint. The Storm forced 15 turnovers and scored 14 points off of takeaways. SNU outrebounded the Cotton Blossoms 37-27 and held them to just 20 points in the paint.
 
SNU will now return home for a Great American Conference game against East Central, Thursday, at 5:30. p.m.
