SNU Takes Down Duluth, Falls to UMSL

Storm split opening day of UAM 8-State Classic

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Southern Nazarene opened the UAM 8-State Classic with a seven-run sixth inning to route Minnesota Duluth before falling 8-2 to No. 18 Missouri-St. Louis.

The Crimson Storm (2-3) had 27 hits on the day with 16 coming in the opener and matched UMSL in the second game with 11 hits.

Hannah LeBeau led the way in the opening game as the freshman hit the first home run of the season to get things going for SNU. Her two run shot to left put the Storm on the board before she drove in another run in the fourth with a single up the middle to put SNU on top 3-0.

The Bulldogs answered to make it 3-1 before SNU erupted with seven runs, including two home runs, in the top of the sixth. The Storm started off with back-to-back singles by Kylee Webb and Whitney Linder. SNU scored one on a Kylie Lang single before Andee Frazier ripped a double to center to plate two more to put SNU on top 6-1. Kacey Acker made it 8-1 with a two-run blast to left before Sam Smith went opposite field with a two-run shot to put it away.

That was more than enough for Kayla Wyatt (2-1) who went the distance giving up just one run on two hits and struck out eight in six innings of work.

LeBeau went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and one run scored. Lindy Fluman, Webb and Linder all went 2-for-3. Megan Blevens went 2-for-2 and Smith went 2-for-4.

In the second game, Missouri-St. Louis jumped out on SNU in the bottom of the third with four runs, but SNU got one back on a Linder sacrifice squeeze that scored Blevens.

The Tritons though added three more in the fourth and another in the fifth to lead 8-1. The Storm got another run back in the seventh on a Frazier single up the middle, but that was as close as SNU came.

Andee Frazier (0-2) took the loss giving up seven runs on nine hits in three innings of work.

Lang went 3-for-4 while LeBeau, Frazier and Blevens all went 2-for-4.

The Storm now get set to take on Fort Hays State and Missouri Southern State Saturday at 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
