SNU opens the season with a 103-59 win over York

BETHANY, Okla. — Southern Nazarene picked up its 29th consecutive win in a home opener with a 103-59 victory over York College.

Aminata Fall posted her first double-double of the season for the Crimson Storm (1-0) as she scored 24 points and grabbed 16 rebounds. She nearly had a triple-double as she also blocked a career-high nine shots. Abby Boyd scored 19 points and grabbed a career-high eight rebounds. Ashleigh Hutchings registered career-highs in points with 13 and in steals with four. Katelynn Gorman also posted career highs in points with 10 and in rebounds with eight.

"There were times when she (Boyd) got a little out of control, but that's who she is," said Head Coach Derek Dorris, "She came out highly focused and full of energy. She did a great job."

Southern Nazarene (1-0) shot 44.3 percent from the field, 42.3 % from behind the arc, and 77.8 percent from the foul line. The Panthers (1-3) shot 27.9% from the field, 33.3 percent from the three-point line, and 72.7% from the foul line.

The Crimson Storm took over early in the first half with a 17-8 run in the first eight minutes. The Panthers (1-3) closed the gap to 3 with a 13-7 run in the next three minutes. That's the closest the game would be the rest of the way. Southern Nazarene closed out the first half strong with a 21-10 run.

Fall nearly posted a double-double in the first half with 13 points and nine rebounds. Boyd and Gorman both scored ten points in the half.

Southern Nazarene put the game away for good with a 27-9 run in the second half. Hutchings scored all of her 13 points in the second half and also dished out four assists. Fall scored 11 points and pulled in seven rebounds. Lashabra Plunkett scored eight points and grabbed seven rebounds in the half.

Fall is now third in school history with 197 blocked shots. She needs 20 more to move into the second spot held by Ndeye Ndiaye (2000-04) who has 216 blocked shots. She also moved into seventh all-time in offensive rebounds with 187.

"I didn't know what to expect," said Dorris, "I told them that I really can't complain about the game. We were on the floor for loose balls and we were grabbing with loose hands. I was pleased. Offensively, we got out in transition and ran. We also shot the ball well. Overall, for the first game, this is what we want."
