Storm Fall To Tigers

SNU gave up eight goals in a 8-3 loss to No. 24 Fort Hays State

HAYS, Kan.— Edgar Pineda scored two goals and Javier Caballeros scored a goal, but Southern Nazarene gave up five goals in the second half in a 8-3 loss to No. 24 Fort Hays State.
 
The Tigers (8-3-1, 5-2 MIAA) scored first when Maurizio Costa put the ball in the lower left corner of the net off a pass from Diego Cabral in the 23rd minute.  Cabral picked up his second assist in the 35th minute when he crossed a pass to Joe Albright and he headed the ball into the net from the middle of the box to extend the lead to 2-0. Albright scored his second goal in the 43rd minute when he stole a pass and placed the ball in the lower left corner to give Fort Hays State a commanding 3-0 lead.  The Crimson Storm (3-9, 2-5 MIAA) only attempted two shots in the first half with neither of them being on goal.
 
Fort Hays State scored their fourth goal in the 48th minute off pass from Addison Pauler who received a pass from David Lucio. Southern Nazarene responded less than a minute later when Edgar Pineda scored off a pass from Mario Caballeros. Pineda scored his second goal of the game on a free kick from the top of the box in the 56th minute to close the gap to 4-2. The Tigers scored three goals in a four-minute span to stretch the lead to 7-2.
 
The Crimson Storm got on the board again when Javier Caballeros scored in the 70th minute. Three players received red cards in the 76th minute as Gustavo Mendoza and Ismael Fernandez received red cards for SNU and Drew Wilson received a red card for Fort Hays State. The Tigers scored their final goal of the game in the 84th minute when Brian Ness scored off a pass from Austin Clifton.
 
The Tigers attempted 19 shots with 13 being on goal. The Crimson Storm attempted eight shots with four of them being on goal.
 
SNU's Jeff Ray recorded five saves and FHSU's Kent Freund had one save.
 
Pineda is now tied for sixth in SNU history in career goals with 27.
