Box Score 2 MAGNOLIA, Ark. — Southern Nazarene survived an extra-inning game with a 5-4 win over Southern Arkansas, before SAU salvaged a split with a 7-5 win in the nightcap.
The Crimson Storm (14-26, 7-19 GAC) had 12 hits and none bigger than
Megan Blevens two-out solo home run to center in the top of the ninth to propel SNU to the win. Southern Nazarene had to battle from a 3-0 deficit, but started to dig out of the hole in the in the top of the fifth.
Kaytie Spencer's double to left cut it to 3-2 before SNU tied it in the top of the sixth when
Whitney Linder singled up the middle. The Storm then took the lead when
Amy Madden was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to put the Storm up 4-3. SNU had a chance to put it away in the seventh, but back-to-back doubles by the Lady Muleriders tied the game at 4-4 and forced extra innings.
Blevens finished 2-for-5 in the first game while
Lindy Fluman and
Jill Clemence did the same. Clemence also scored a run.
Kylie Lang led the way going 3-for-4 with a run scored.
Maci-Brooke Lambert recorded her third straight win as she did not allow a run in 2.2 innings of relief. She also struck out five of the nine batters she faced.
Just like SAU did in the first game, Southern Nazarene roared out to an early lead in the nightcap. SNU took advantage of two errors in the first inning and scored three unearned runs in the first and took a 4-0 lead with another unearned run in the second.
Southern Arkansas began to chip away through with one in the bottom of the second and tied it with three in the fourth. The Lady Muleriders took their first lead of the game with two in the fifth to go up 6-4 before a Blevens triple put SNU within one in the top of the sixth at 6-5. SAU put it away with one in the bottom of sixth.
All four of SNU's this came from different players as Blevens lead the way, going 1-for-3 with two RBIs and one run scored. Lambert (9-12) took the loss after giving up five runs on seven hits in 4.2 innings of work.
The Crimson Storm now get set to host Oklahoma Christian, Tuesday, for a 2 p.m. non-conference doubleheader.
