Box Score 2 BETHANY, Okla. — Southern Nazarene nearly had its first doubleheader sweep of the conference season after taking the first game with Southwestern Oklahoma State 8-5 and had a 7-1 through four innings in the second. SWOSU through scored 10 runs in the final three innings to score the split as SNU fell 11-7 in the second game.
The Crimson Storm (10-16, 4-10 GAC) picked up its second straight win in the Great American Conference as the Storm rallied in the opener.
Southwestern broke the scoreless tie in the third with an unearned run in the third, but SNU tied it up in the bottom of the fourth when
Kaytie Spencer ripped a lead off home run. The Lady Bulldogs took a 2-1 lead with a solo home run in the top of the fifth, but SNU got a grand slam out of
Amy Madden in the bottom half of the inning to jump out to a 5-2 lead. That home run tied the school record for career home runs.
Southwestern responded in the top of the sixth with three runs to tie it at 5-5. All three runs though were unearned as SNU committed two errors in the inning. The Storm answered right back though with three in the bottom of the sixth.
Courtney Wiley drove home the first run of the inning with a sacrifice fly before
Jill Clemence went the opposite way with a two-run home run to left center to put SNU on top 8-5.
Maci-Brooke Lambert (5-9) picked up the win as the sophomore gave up just one earned run on six hits and struck out five in seven innings of work.
Madden and
Kacey Acker each went 2-for-3 and scored a run while Madden had four RBIs. Spencer also went 2-for-4.
Southwestern took the first lead in the nightcap as it took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but the Storm unloaded in the bottom half of the inning with sux runs. Acker drew a bases loaded walk to push the first run across before
Megan Blevens singled to right to give SNU the lead at 2-1. Kacey Allen then ripped a two-RBI single up the middle before
Whitney Linder laid down a bunt single to score
Lindy Fluman.
Kylie Lang drew another bases loaded walk for the final run of the inning.
SNU carried a 7-1 lead into the fifth, but the Lady Bulldogs scored two in the fifth, five in the sixth and added three more in the top of the seventh to lead 11-7.
Jeneva Nelson (4-5) took the loss after giving up 11 runs on 13 hits in 6.1 innings of work. Clemence and Lang each went 2-for-3 as Lang scored a run. Acker also went 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored.
The two will play another GAC doubleheader Saturday, at 12 p.m.
