Storm Draw Weekend Split

SNU falls to Missouri Western, thumps Washburn

SNU played three conference preseason favorites to start the season.
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 DURANT, Okla. — It went from a sunny Friday to a cold and overcast Saturday, but Southern Nazarene still came out 1-1 on the day with a 12-1 loss to Missouri Western and a 13-6 win over Washburn.

A home run by Kaytie Spencer was all the offense SNU had as Missouri Western's Jackie Bishop gave up just two hits in a five-inning run rule. The Crimson Storm took the first lead of the game on Spencer's solo shot, but it was all Giffons from there.

Missouri Western scored two in bottom of the second to lead 2-1 and then added four in the third, two in the fourth and got a grand slam in the fifth to end it. MWSU recorded 13 hits and were led by Keri Lorbert who went 3-for-4 with two home runs, six RBIs and three runs scored.

Maci-Brooke Lambert took the loss to fall to 1-1 on the year as she allowed six run on eight hits in 2.2 innings of work.

Lambert then picked up the win in the second game after coming on in the fourth in relief of Jeneva Nelson. The sophomore gave up just one earned run on three hits and struck out four in the final four innings of work. Nelson threw the first three innings allowing two earned runs on three hits.

Spencer finished the day going 4-for-5 with a home run, a double, four RBIs and a run scored. Lindy Fluman went 3-for-5 with four RBIs and two runs scored. Jill Clemence went 3-for-4 with three runs scored. Kylie Lang scored three runs while going 1-for-3.

SNU scored two in the first off of ground outs and then added four in the second, including a three-run bomb off Megan Blevens. SNU took an 8-3 lead in the fourth on a two-run double by Spencer. Washburn answered with two in the bottom half of the inning to make it 8-5. The Storm added one in the fifth and three in the sixth off of back-to-back home runs from Fluman, a two-run shot, and a solo shot by Spencer to lead 12-5. Fluman put the finishing touches on the board with an RBI single in the seventh.

The Crimson Storm now get prepared for a six-game set over three days at the UAM 7-State Classic in Bentonville, Ark.
