Box Score 2 MONTICELLO, Ark. — Arkansas-Monticello rallied from being down 6-1 to score a 9-7 win over Southern Nazarene and then thumped SNU 15-2 in five innings in the nightcap.
Southern Nazarene fell to 6-8 overall and 0-4 in the Great American Conference.
In the opener, the Crimson Storm got the offense going early as
Kacey Acker ripped a single to right center to give SNU a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Monticello answered with one in the bottom half of the inning to tie it at 1-1, but SNU unloaded in the third with four.
Jessica Valdez recorded the first RBI in the inning when she was hit with the bases loaded. Clemence made it 3-1 with a single through the left before a
Lindy Fluman sacrifice fly to right gave SNU a 4-1 lead.
Kylie Lang put the final touches on the inning with a single down the left field line to put SNU up 5-1.
The Storm added another in the fourth on a leadoff home run to right by
Amy Madden.
The Cotton Blossoms mounted a rally though with two in the fourth, two in the sixth and four in the seventh to lead 9-6. The Storm did get one back in the seventh on a bases loaded walk, but UAM held on for the win.
Both Fluman and Lang went 3-for-4 with an RBI while Fluman had a run scored.
Kaytie Spencer also went 2-for-5 with a run scored while Clemence went 2-for-4.
Maci-Brooke Lambert (4-4) took the loss after giving up seven runs, six earned, on eight hits in five innings of work.
In the nightcap, the Storm were held to just two runs and four hits and all of it came in the fourth inning. The Cotton Blossoms scored two in the first and four each in the second and third to lead 10-0 before SNU got the bats going. A Fluman double put the storm on the board before Spencer drove home Fluman with a double, but that was it for SNU. UAM then added one in the fifth to make it 11-2 before a grand slam ended it.
Becca Webb (0-2) took the loss after giving up six runs on four hits.
SNU now heads to Ouachita Baptist for a four-game set Friday at Saturday.
