Storm Swept at Monticello

Blossoms outlast SNU

Acker hit her fourth home run of the year.
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MONTICELLO, Ark. — Southern Nazarene opened up the Great American Conference season with a doubleheader loss at the GAC preseason favorite Arkansas Monticello. UAM got a walk off hit by pitch to in the opener 2-1 before shutting out SNU 2-0 in the nightcap.
 
Maci-Brooke Lambert gave up just two runs on seven hits and struck out three in the opener, but the sophomore made just one late mistake in the seventh. Monticello broke the scoreless tie in the bottom of the fifth to lead 1-0, but SNU tied it in the top of the seventh on a leadoff home run from Kacey Acker.
 
The Cotton Blossoms got three straight singles with an out in the bottom of the seventh to load the bases. SNU though got a ground ball to third and Amy Madden threw the runner out at home to get the second out and leave the bases loaded. Lambert though hit the next batter to give UAM the win.
 
Lambert moved to 4-3 on the year. Lindy Fluman went 2-for-3 on the day while Acker went 1-for-3. Madden also went 1-for-3.
 
Kylie Lang went 2-for-4 in the nightcap to lead the way for SNU. Becca Webb (0-1) gave up just two runs on five hits in 5.1 innings of work, but SNU never could push a run across. The Storm matched UAM hit for hit, but left eight stranded.
 
Neither team scored a run until the Monticello pushed two across in the bottom of the sixth. Southern Nazarene put the first three runners on base to loaded the bases with no outs. UAM got a fielder's choice and then struck out the next batter for two straight outs. Lang then flew out to short to end the game and left the bases full.
 
The Crimson Storm will play UAM again Sunday in another doubleheader at 1 p.m.
