Box Score 2 BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Amy Madden is already off to a hot start and in just 10 games the senior is a third of the way to where she was last year in home run with five. The two-time All-American hit three home runs on the final day of the UAM 7-State Classic as SNU shutout Rockhurst (Mo.), 4-0, before falling 14-13 to Missouri Southern in a marathon game to end the week.
The Crimson Storm (6-4) got another fantastic performance in the circle out of
Maci-Brooke Lambert who notched her first shutout. The sophomore gave up jus two hits and struck out three to move to 4-2 on the year. Madden went 2-for-2 with two RBIs, two runs scored and two home runs.
Jill Clemence went 2-for-4 while
Kylie Lang went 2-for-3.
SNU broke the scoreless tie in the bottom of the second when Acker hit her second home run of the year with a two-run shot to center field. Madden hit her first home run of the game in the third to give SNU a 3-0 lead before she ripped her second in the fifth to put the finishing touches on the game.
In the nightcap, SNU had four home runs, including another one from Madden. Lang led the way going 3-for-4 with three run scored.
Jill Clemence also went 2-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored.
Missouri Southern scored four in the top of the first before SNU answered with four in the bottom half of the inning. Madden drove in the first run with a sacrifice fly to right before Acker belted a three-run home run to left to tie the game at four.
The Lions took a 12-4 lead with five in the second and three in the third, but SNU answered with five in the bottom of the third to make it 12-9. MSSU made it 13-9 in the top of the fourth, but another Madden home run cut it to 13-10 in the bottom of the fourth. SNU got a two-run home run out of Fluman in the fifth to make it 13-12. The Lions added another in the seventh to make it 14-12, but SNU got a leadoff home run in the bottom of the inning by Blevens to cut it to one at 14-13. That was it for the Storm as they went down in order after that.
Jeneva Nelson (2-2) took the loss after she allowed nine run on eight hits in 1.2 innings work.
Southern Nazarene will now get set to head to Arkansas-Monticello, Friday and Saturday, for a pair of doubleheaders to open the Great American Conference season.
