Box Score 2 BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Jeneva Nelson was just one batter away from a no-hitter until Nebraska-Kearney ripped a single with two outs in the fifth as Southern Nazarene closed out the day with a pair of run rules. SNU scored an 11-1 win over Central Missouri in the first game of the day before shutting out UNK 8-0 with both games ending in five innings.
The Crimson Storm (5-3) have won three straight and got two dominating performances in the circle.
Maci-Brooke Lambert nearly mirrored her line from Friday, but picked up the win this time. The sophomore gave up just one run on four hits and struck out two as she moved to 3-2 on the year.
Jill Clemence and
Kylie Lang provided the 1-2 punch, literally, as the top two hitters in the lineup went 6-for-6 with six RBIs and three run scored. Clemence went 2-for-2 with three RBIs and two runs scored while Lang was 4-for-4 with three RBIS and one run scored.
Kacey Acker was also 2-for-2 with two runs scored.
SNU scored three in the bottom of the first in answer to UCM's one. A
Lindy Fluman sacrifice squeeze scored the first run of the game before a
Kaytie Spencer single to right made it 2-1. Spencer scored the final run on the inning on a Central Missouri error. A Lang single made it 4-1 before the Storm added three more in the third, including a pair of RBI doubles from Clemence and Lang. SNU put the finishing touches on the game in the fourth as Blevens drew a bases-loaded walk before a two-RBI single by Clemence and an RBI single by Lang made it 11-1.
In the nightcap, Nelson faced just two batters over the minimum as she gave up just one walk and the hit with two outs in the fifth. She also struck out four. The top five hitters in the lineup for SNU went 12-for-15.
Amy Madden led the way going 3-for-3 with three RBIs, a run scored and a home run. Lang went 3-for-4 with two runs scored while Clemence went 2-for-4. Both Fluman and Spencer went 2-for-4 with two runs scored while Spencer had three RBIs and Fluman had one. Acker also went 2-for-2.
The Storm didn't waste any time scoring four runs right out of the gate. A Spencer single to left gave SNU a 1-0 lead before Madden hit her second home run of the year, a 3-run shot to center, to make it 4-0. Spencer the blasted her fourth home run of the year with a two-run bomb to center to put SNU on top 6-0 in the second. SNU put it away in the fourth with two more runs. Kaylee Allen single to left scored the final run.
Southern Nazarene will now close out the UAM 7-State Classic with an 11 a.m. game against Missouri Western State and a 1 p.m. game with Rockhurst (Mo.).
