Eagles Outlast Storm

Southern Nazarene falls on the road at Oklahoma Christian

Box Score OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. — Southern Nazarene had four players in doubles figures including a game-high 22 points out of Quan Conner as SNU fell 98-83 at Oklahoma Christian.
 
The Crimson Storm (0-2) trailed by as much as 11 in the second half and got within four at 77-73 with 5:52 to play, but the Eagles (2-0) closed out the game on a 21-10 run to end the game and just out ran SNU down the stretch.
 
Conner hit a season-high five 3-pointers and went 6-for-14 from the field to lead the way for SNU. CJ Smith added 21 points and nine rebounds to go with three assists and three steals. Antwone Jackson scored a career-high 17 points in his first game of the season after sitting out the season opener because of an injury. He also added five rebounds and two blocks. LB Willis got his first start of the year as the freshman scored 12 points and had two assists.
 
The Crimson Storm shot 49.2 percent from the field going 29-for-59 from the field. SNU hit 11 3-pointers on the night and went 14-for-20 at the line.
 
Oklahoma Christian out rebounded SNU 40-30 and had 16 offensive rebounds. The Eagles scored 28 points in the paint and had 21 second chance points. The Storm scored just 10 points in the paint and got outscored on the bench 18-9.
 
The Crimson Storm scored the first five points and of the game and were up 7-2 when OC went on a 21-5 run to lead 23-12 midway through the first half. OC extended its lead to 13 twice before taking a 50-38 lead at the half.
 
The Storm opened the second half by scoring the first nine points of the second half to cut it to 50-47. SNU didn't come that close the rest of the way as OC answered every run the Storm made.
 
Southern Nazarene will now get set to host Central Oklahoma, Saturday, for a 7:30 p.m. game.
