PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. — Southern Nazarene is one win away from getting into the gold bracket of the NFCA-NAIA Lead Off Classic after the Crimson Storm split games as they lost 3-1 to No. 4 Central Baptist (Ark.) and defeated Madonna (Mich.) 3-2.
Amy Madden,
Kylie Lang and
Kacey Acker extended their hitting streaks to nine-game each and Madden ripped her seventh home run of the year.
In the opener, SNU fell behind 2-0 before it took advantage of a CBC error to cut it to 2-1, but that was it for SNU as the Mustangs added another in the sixth to put it away.
The Storm matched CBC hit for hit, but the Mustangs got their hits in the top of the order at the right time. Central Baptist got a complete game out of Jessica Bock who allowed just the one run on six hits and fanned six.
Maci-Brooke Lambert pitched all six innings and gave up three runs on six hits and struck out five.
In the nightcap,
Kaci Crawford gave up just two runs on five hits and struck out eight. Each of the first six hitters recorded a hit.
Madonna struck first with a run in the third, but SNU answered in the bottom half with Madden's two-run shot and then made it 3-1 on
Kristina Forest's double to left field. The Crusaders added one in the seventh, but the Storm stranded two Madonna runners to end the game.
The Crimson Storm will now play No. 17 Union (Tenn.) at 9 a.m.
