KINGSVILLE, Texas —
The season-opening trek to South Texas finally came to a close just a few minutes shy of Sunday morning as Southern Nazarene completed its three-game Saturday going 1-2. SNU opened the day with a 4-3 loss to Midwestern State before scoring a 6-5 win over Texas A&M Kingsville. The Crimson Storm finally ended their weekend with a 9-1 (5 inn.) loss to Tarleton State.

The Crimson Storm finished 2-3 at the Javelina Softball Tournament.

In the opener against Midwestern State, Southern Nazarene got on the board first in bottom of the first when Katie Turner hit the first home run of the season for the Storm when she laced one to center field. The Mustangs answered though with two runs in both the third and fourth innings to lead 4-1.

The Storm cut it to 4-2 in the fourth when Amy Madden drilled a lead off home run before Kaylee Allen ripped a double to right center to score Aubrey Jones to put SNU within one at 4-3, but that was as close as SNU came.

Amy Madden led the way for the Storm, going 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Jeneva Nelson (1-1) took the loss after giving up four runs on nine hits in seven innings of work. She also struck out four.

The second game, SNU jumped out quickly, scoring two in the first off a two-run shot to left by Madden. The Storm added another in the second on a sacrifice squeeze to lead 3-0.

Texas A&M Kingsville got on the board in the third to make it 3-1, but the Storm took a 5-1 lead in the top of the fifth on a one-out single up the middle by Kara Crawford to score Kacey Acker and Madden. The Storm added another insurance run in the seventh when Alison Fields singled up the middle to score Jordan Jones.

The Javelinas nearly completed the come back with four runs in the bottom of the seventh, but fell just short as Nelson picked up her first save of the year.

Kaci Crawford (1-0) earned her first win of the season after allowing five runs, two earned, on nine hits in six and two-thirds innings of work. She also fanned four. Nelson came in to face the final batter to secure the save.

Madden went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Lang was also 2-for-4.

It was Madden again in the final game of the weekend who gave the Storm a 1-0 lead against Tarleton State in the top of the first, but the Texans responded with two in the bottom half of the inning and two more in the third to lead 4-1. TSU then put an end to the weekend with a five-run fifth to score the run rule in five innings.

Maci-Brooke Lambert took the loss after giving up nine runs on five hits in four and one-thirds inning of work. The Storm were held to just one hit.

SNU will now get set to host Bethany (Kan.), Saturday, for a 12 p.m. doubleheader in the home opener.
