Box Score PHOENIX, Ariz. — Oumoul Thiam scored a team-high 21 points for Southern Nazarene in a 72-67 loss to Humboldt State (Calif.) Friday night at the Grand Canyon University Tip-Off Classic. The 21 points put Thiam over 1,000 points for her career as she became to the 25th person in school history to score 1,000 points.
The Crimson Storm (2-1) also nearly had two doubles-doubles as
Aminata Fall had eight points and 13 rebounds while
Annie Kassongo scored 16 points and had nine rebounds.
Katie Beebe also added 11 points.
SNU pounded the offensive glass, scoring 25 points off of 22 offensive rebounds, but the Storm gave up 22 points off of 21 turnovers.
The Storm took an early lead at 13-9 and were up 16-2 midway through the first half. SNU had its last year at 27-25 before Humboldt closed out the half with a 12-1 run to lead 37-28.
The Jacks led 51-40 at the 13:23 mark in the second half before Fall hit a pair of free throws to spark 14-5 run as SNU cut it to 56-54 with 7:26 to play. That was as close as SNU came the rest of the way in losing its first game of the season.
Southern Nazarene will finish up its time out west taking on Eastern New Mexico, Saturday, at 5 p.m. (CST).
