Box Score MAGNOLIA, Ark. — Southern Nazarene trailed just 20-14 at halftime against Southern Arkansas, but SAU shutout SNU 27-0 in the second half to pull off a 47-14 win.
The Crimson Storm (1-7) totaled 223 yards of offense, but gave up 521. SNU was held to just 25 yards rushing and threw for 198 while the Muleriders (6-1) rushed for 182 and threw for 221.
Dylan Terry went 22-for-33 passing with one touchdown.
Sedrick Johnson had 92 yards receiving on 10 catches.
SAU's Tyler Sykora threw for 337 yards on 25-for-44 passing and four touchdowns and hit Montel Hardman six times for 129 yards. Mark Johnson also rushed for 92 yards on 16 carries.
The Muleriders took a 13-0 lead in the first quarter before
Ryan Mischler blocked a punt and recovered it in the end zone to put the Crimson Storm on the board. SAU jumped out a 20-7 lead before Terry hit
Jarod Martin for an 8-yard stroke to complete an 8-play, 75-yard drive as the Storm cut it to 20-14 with 1:06 left in the half. That was the last time SNU put up any points on the board.
The Muleriders scored twice in each of the final two quarters to put it away.
Dillon Brumbaugh led the way on the defensive side with 12 tackles while Blake Cavill and
Michael Hicks each had a sack.
Trevon Hartfield broke up four passes on the day, just one short of tying the school record.
The Crimson Storm now get set travel to Southwestern Oklahoma State, Saturday, for a 6 p.m. game.
