LUBBOCK, Texas — Jackie Acevedo might have to wear a giant “S” on her shirt after the junior played Superwoman again for Southern Nazarene in a 2-1 overtime win at Lubbock Christian.
Acevedo scored both goals for the Crimson Storm (7-5, 4-1 SAC), including a golden goal in the 99th minute to knock off the Chaparrals (8-3-1, 2-2-1 SAC) who led for more than 46 minutes early in the contest.
LCU broke the scoreless tie in the 16th minute when Peta-Gaye Soman scored on a free kick from 20 yards outside the box. The Chaps carried the 1-0 lead through the first half and held it for 17:20 into the second half.
Acevedo knotted the game at 1-1 when she broke free and corralled a loose ball and found the back of the net for the score and eventually forced overtime. With just 1:25 left in the first overtime period, Acevedo broke in from the top of the box and took a pass from Bruna Da Cas before shooting over the top of LCU keeper, Lacy Burress, to score the sudden death goal.
Burress made nine saves as Southern Nazarene put 11 of its 18 shots on goal. Rachael Wade posted five saves in goal for the Crimson Storm as the Chaps took 16 shots with six being on goal.
Acevedo has scored at least goal in each of the last seven games and has scored eight of SNU's 11 goals in the last four games.
The Crimson Storm are back in action Saturday when they host Wayland Baptist for a 1 p.m. contest.
