Ropin' the Rangers

Jackie Acevedo scored her second hat trick of the year in a 6-1 win over Northwestern

Acevedo leads the Sooner Athletic Conference in scoring.

BETHANY — Jackie Acevedo scored her second hat trick of the year as Southern Nazarene University defeated Northwestern Oklahoma State this afternoon in a routine 6-1 victory, and everything else was gravy.

The win moves the Crimson Storm to 9-5-0 on the season, and 6-1-0 in SAC play.

Acevedo scored the first two goals of the game before Kayla Thompson, Rachel Eguren and Kira Dowis all scored goals before the junior forward netted her hat trick.

SNU struck first off a long ball played forward by Whitney Seaton who found a sprinting Jackie Acevedo as she had beaten the entire of the Ranger defense. With only the goalie left, Acevedo struck the ball low into the left corner of the net for the first score of the game.

The Crimson Storm continued to control the game. A bare minute after her first goal, Acevedo dribbled through the Ranger defense and ripped a shot again into the lower left corner of the goal to put SNU up 2-0. Three minutes after this second goal, Kayla Thompson ripped a shot from the top of the box that went through the NWOSU keeper's hands to notch the first goal of her career as SNU took a 3-0 lead into the half.

The second closely mirrored the first, with SNU dominating possession. Several attacks on the Ranger goal failed to amount to a score, until two quick touches from Bruna Da Cas to Thompson led to Rachel Eguren facing down the goalie. Her shot found the right side of the net, putting SNU up 4-0. With 13 minutes remaining in the game, SNU got three players behind the NWOSU defense. Kira Dowis scored her second goal of the season off a rebound from Eguren's shot, making the score 5-0. Just three minutes later, Acevedo dribbled the ball up through the Ranger defense and struck a shot over the keeper's left shoulder into the right side of the net to complete the hat trick.

The Rangers scored their lone goal in the 82nd minute when Christina Nunez scored on a low shot into the left side of the goal to make it 6-1.

The Crimson Storm demolished the Rangers when it came to shots, totaling a remarkable 34 shots, with a whopping 16 shots-on-goal, while NWOSU had only four shots for the entire game, only two of which were on goal.

Rachael Wade needed to make just one save while Kelsey Archer made 10 saves for the Rangers.
