Connel begins his second season as a graduate assistant while he is pursuing his masters degree in educational leadership. The Bethany, Oklahoma native played four years at Southern Nazarene for Coach Bohac where he graduated in 2013 with a degree in science education.Â
Prior to returning to Southern Nazarene, Connel taught at Robert S. Kerr Middle School where he also coached basketball and golf. He also coached AAU basketball with former SNU basketball coach Art Bogan.
Connel is a local product from Bethany High School where he led the team in scoring in the 2007-08 and 2008-09 seasons at 18 points per game and was an OBCA All-State selection. He also averaged nine rebounds per game earning an All-Canadian Valley Conference and Oklahoman Little All-City selection.
Connel and his wife, Kelley, reside in Bethany.Â
