Storm Secures Fourth Straight GAC Championship with 2-0 Win Over Newman

Agurcia and Beja's second half goals seal the deal as SNU storms to another championship

BETHANY, Okla.-  Southern Nazarene took care of business in style, clinching their fourth consecutive GAC/MIAA regular season championship with a 2-0 win over Newman.

The first half saw a lot of shots from both teams, with SNU's (11-3-4, 8-1-3 GAC) Lucas Beja and Junior Duran getting close but just off the mark.

Newman's (8-9-1, 5-6-1 GAC) Mario De Roque Zazon fired one wide early, and Nicolo Lai's attempt on target was met with a solid save by SNU keeper Andrej Krivokapic. Both teams went into halftime scoreless.

The second half, Esteban Ramirez and Duran kept pressing for the Storm, but NU's goalie, Juan Carlos Cordova, held his ground. With 83:42 on the clock the breakthrough finally came with  Axel Agurcia finding the back of the net, assisted by a great pass from Duran, putting the Crimson Storm up 1-0.

Just a minute later, Beja wasn't about to be left out of the action. He took a great shot that doubled the lead to 2-0. Krivokapic stood tall and had one more save before the clock ran out sealing the deal and leaving no room for a comeback as the Storm took the 2-0 victory of the Jets.
