BETHANY, Okla.
- The Crimson Storm went head to head with the Eagles of Oklahoma Christian in a battle of the defenders. The Storm and Eagles would only allow one second-half goal each, but that was not enough to determine a winner. A 1-1 draw would be the final from Bethany.
The Storm (2-0-1,0-0 GAC) are off to their best start in the Division II era. Coming off of two strong wins they looked to ruffle some feathers in their matchup with the Eagles (1-0-1, 0-0 LSC) from down the road. The Storm struggled in their matchup last season dropping to the Eagles 3-1. The Storm has set out on a scoring rampage to start the 2023 season but only was allowed one goal by the Eagles.
The offense was quiet for both teams until the second half.
Natalie Montanez shot one by the Eagles' goalie on a penalty kick to put the Storm on the board leading 1-0. This tallies Montanez's second goal of the year for the Storm. Unfortunately, it only took two minutes for the Eagles to reply, knotting up the score at 1-1. This would be it for both offenses as they continued to duke it out defensively for the remainder of the match.
Bella Morgas continued to fuel the fire offensively with three shots and two shots on goal for the Storm. Morgas was named the Great American Conference Offensive Player of the Week after two breakout performances, scoring four goals in her first two collegiate games.
Gianna Bonnett continued to play a strong role for the Storm with four saves tallied on the night. Bonnett was named the Great American Conference Goalkeeper of the Week after she tallied nine saves in two games. She has played a key role in the early success of the Storm.
The Storm defense continued to look sharp, helping ease the job of Bonnett at goal and also making some big plays early and often.
