Storm Falls to Tigers in GAC Semifinals

SNU comes up short agianst the Ouachita, 1-0

SHAWNEE, Okla. - Southern Nazarene traveled just a few miles down the road to compete against Ouachita Baptist in the GAC Women's Soccer Semifinals. The Storm and the Tigers battled, but OBU ultimately came out on top, 1-0, advancing to the GAC finals.

The Crimson Storm (10-4-5, 6-2-4 GAC) met with the Ouachita Tigers (10-2-7, 6-2-4 GAC) for the third time this season. The Tigers had the Storm's number in their first matchup of the season defeating SNU 2-0. In their second matchup, the Storm controlled most of the match, but some late goals from the Tigers led to a draw of 3-3.

The Storm looked to make some noise in the GAC tournament but ultimately fell short. The Ouachita offense was held off by SNU for the entire first half leaving the score at 0-0 going into halftime. Neither squad had much offense in the first half, only tallying four shots a piece.

The second half got underway, but the Tigers came out firing. During the 58th minute, OBU broke the silence and scored the first goal of the match, putting them ahead, 1-0. The SNU defense continued to work, not allowing another Ouachita goal for the rest of the match. Unfortunately, the Crimson Storm could not find a way to string together some offense to tie the game and pull ahead.

The Tigers out-shot the Storm 15-6 in the match. Gianna Bonnett collected five saves for the Storm at the goal while the offense was led by Natalie Montanez, who collected two shots on the night.

This brings the Crimson Storm's remarkable season to a close. Head Coach Josh Smith will look to his young team of returners to continue to build off of a successful 2023 season.
