BETHANY, Okla. - In their last game of the season, Southern Nazarene fell to GAC No. 4 seed Northwestern Oklahoma State 2-0 in Bethany.
The battle between the Storm (5-11-2, 1-9-2) and the Rangers (7-4-7, 4-2-6) was tight for the majority of that match as neither team saw a score for 72 minutes. SNU kept the No. 4 seeded Rangers off the board the entire first half, leaving the match wide open for the Storm to take control. Northwestern caught fire late in the second half, firing a round of shots to end up landing two goals to seal the win.
Both squads suffered a scoring drought the entire first half with the score reading 0-0 going into halftime. Each team got a couple of good looks at the goal, but none were close to giving either team their first score of the match.
Out of the break, the match remained gridlocked 20 minutes into the second half. The Rangers committed a foul in the 67th minute to give Maya Pomeroy the penalty kick and a chance for SNU to break the scoring seal. Her shot missed just outside of the goal, but it kept the Rangers on high alert on the defensive end.
Northwestern was able to punch in the first goal of the night in the 72nd minute, claiming the 1-0 lead over SNU.
SNU saw a couple of offensive opportunities to try and counter, but the Rangers added another goal in the 80th minute, now leading SNU 2-0.
With 10 minutes remaining in the match, SNU did all they could to cut the deficit, but the Rangers held them off to win it with a final score of 2-0.
Alyssa Adams finished with two shots on goal while Kaitlyn Deaton, Karla Ramirez, and Cameryn Peter each tallied one shot on goal.
SNU finished the season 5-11-2 overall and 1-9-2 in conference, earning three shutout wins on the year.
