WICHITA, KS – It can be agreed that whatever Coach Harmon said during halftime of the Southern Nazarene Men's Soccer game against Newman needs to happen every game as the Storm erupted for three scores in the second half to dominate the Jets 4-1 on Saturday afternoon.
SNU (3-2-0, 3-2-0 GAC) kept the ball on their side of the field as they possessed the ball for majority of the match. This would explain the 15 total shots that the Crimson Storm fired off, nine on goal, and the lackluster three shots NU (2-6-0, 1-5-0 GAC) managed.
Newman got on the board first with a score in the 21
st minute, but a few minutes later,
Orlando Castro netted a ball for SNU, assisted by
Esteban Ramirez, to tie the game at 1-1. The score sat deadlocked at 1-1 going into the break.
Then a shooting Storm literally began as SNU went on to score three more times after the recess. The run started with an
Angel Lopez score, assisted by
Juan Rodarte at the 72:56 mark of the game. Apparently, that wasn't enough for Lopez as he would score again in the 80
th minute, assisted by
Esteban Ramirez. The final score came by way of
Eric Romero two minutes before the match's end, assisted by
Phillips Gomez.
Angel Lopez led the way statistically for SNU as he netted two goals off of five total shots.
Orlando Castro and
Eric Romero each scored once and tallied three and two shots, respectively.
Esteban Ramirez was extremely instrumental in today's win as he assisted on two of SNU's goals. Other notables were
Juan Rodarte and
Phillips Gomez who each collected an assist.
At goalkeeper Jimenez Ramiro held his own in the net as he faced two total shots and saved one.
Southern Nazarene will be back at on April 3
rd for Senior to take on Harding University. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
