BETHANY, Okla. — The Southern Nazarene Women's Soccer team fell 0-2 in their season closure to Southwestern Oklahoma State Saturday afternoon at Wes Harmon Feild.
In celebration of their seniors, the Storm (1-17, 0-12 GAC) gave it their all that match as they held the Bulldogs (12-5-1, 10-1-1 GAC) to a scoreless first half. Normally, ahead in all stat categories most matches, SWOSU was having trouble on the offensive end as only nine of their 23 shots were in range. In combination with the Storm's defensive effort, the GAC leaders were tied 0-0 with SNU as the first 45 minutes was up.
As the second half commenced and 70 minutes had gone by, the Bulldogs were still without a goal. As time was dwindling down, they finally managed to sink one in putting the score at 1-0. Seeing that one goal was not enough to hold the fighting Storm off, SWOSU found another successful opportunity to extend their lead to 2-0 with 19 minutes remaining in the second.
SNU continued to battle on the defensive end but their offensive efforts were not enough to overcome the two-goal deficit. As the buzzer sounded, the Bulldogs survived and walked away with a Great American Conference regular season title with their 2-0 victory in Bethany.
It was a great effort overall by the Storm squad as they held the Bulldogs to zero goals scored the first 70 minutes of play.
Goalie Abigail Moreno stood strong for the Storm as she managed to grab seven saves that afternoon.
10 seniors were celebrated by family and friends ahead of the match for the Storm's Senior Day to conclude their 2021 season.
