BETHANY — Just after reaching their highest ranking in the United Coaches' Poll since Division II, the No. 20 Southern Nazarene University Men's Soccer Team tallied their fourth consecutive win in their 4-0 victory over Newman making this their longest win streak ever recorded since moving to the higher division.
The last match the Storm (7-3, 4-0 GAC) posted a score of 4-0 against an opponent dates back to 2012 against Southwest Baptist when they were competing in the MIAA conference.
The Storm dominated Newman (0-8-1, 0-3-1 GAC) right from kickoff and refused to allow them any opportunities on the offensive end. SNU tallied 24 total shots to the Jets' four while the Storm had 13 of those on target while the Jets' had one a single shot in sight of the goal.
SNU made the mark as early as 10 minutes into the first as Angel Lopez finds teammate Daniel Trojman for a quick goal to give the Storm their fiery start. A single minute had passed and Orlando Castro gives it to Juan Rodarte for another SNU point extending the early lead to 2-0.
The score would stay the remainder of the half as SNU seemed unlucky on every opportunity thereafter.
After the half, Lopez decides he wants a goal of his own and dances past a couple of Newman defenders with a straight shot to the back making the board read 3-0. Play would continue down to the 85 minute marker until Alvaro Sanchez sinks one in courtesy of Alessandro Alfaro to finalize the match at 4-0.
Lopez tallied across all categories per usual with three shots, three shots on goal, one goal, and one assist for the Storm. Trojman also had another outstanding night posting five shots, three shots on target, and one goal on the night. Rodarte brought a surge of energy with his five shots and one goal that match while Sanchez tallied his one shot and one goal to complete SNU's 4-0 victory.
Castro was dishing positive play as he tallied one assist that match. Other notables were Rennato Ramos and Jason Monterroso who each tallied one shot and one shot on target on the night.
The Storm are taking this momentum into the weekend as they host Fort Hays State Saturday at home with kickoff set for 1 p.m.
