Final Round Washed Out at MSSU Invite, Melichar Finishes Tied for Third

MONKEY ISLAND, Okla. - The final round of the Missouri Southern State University men's golf fall invitational had to wait for the conclusion of round two on Tuesday morning as two players needed to finish their 36th hole of the event. Those two players were able to complete their round, making the second round official, but after that, the Southern Nazarene University men and 18 other teams loaded up the busses and went home as rain forced the cancelation of the final 18 holes of play.
Heavy rains moved through central Oklahoma overnight, and progressed into the northeastern part of the state as the morning wore on, which initially delayed the start of the third round by more than an hour. As the rain continued to fall heavily, however, the decision was made to end the event after 36 holes, as several of the teams had long trips to get home and pushing the start times any further was not feasible.
SNU finished the event in ninth place as a team, posting a score of 585. Oklahoma Christian University won the event at 564, but the day felt like a missed opportunity for the Storm, as several teams were within the SNU's striking range if they had been able to post a good score in the final round.
Individually,
Ondrej Melichar paced the SNU contingent in the field, shooting a 4-under par total of 140 in the event and finishing in a third place tie. JD Pitts finished tied for 35th at 147 (+3),
Jacob Grellner tied for 45th at 149 (+5),
Zander Tway used a strong second round to rally to finish the event at 151 (+7), and Saxon Ross shot a total score of 162 to round out the SNU individual scores.Â
SNU will return to the course at the Territory Golf Club in Duncan, Oklahoma on October 21st and 22nd. On those dates, they will participate in Cameron University's Jerry Hrnciar Invitational - a 54-hole event that will be their final action of the fall schedule.
