BETHANY, Okla. - The Southern Nazarene Men's Soccer team fell to the Bison of Oklahoma Baptist 4-2 on Friday night at Wes Harmon field at the Wanda Rhodes Soccer Complex.
The match contained no shortage of physicality as it involved a total of 49 fouls, 10 yellow cards, and one red card.
The Storm (2-13-1, 1-8-1 GAC) held the shot advantage at 17, shooting six on goal, while the Bison (5-10-1, 3-8-1 GAC) shot 13 times with seven of those being on target. SNU had the upper hand in corner kicks as well as they shot six compared to the three of OBU.
The scoring started fast as Oklahoma Baptist broke the seal with a goal in the 20th minute of play from Luis Romero, assisted by Peterson Costa. The Storm would answer a minute later (21:39) with a score from freshman
Guy Esquivel, assisted by Angel, making it his fifth goal on the season.
Right after the half, Dominic Gibson of OBU cashed in with a shot, assisted by Bruno Feirrera, in the 48th minute of play. Parker Lawter would follow right behind with a score at the 58:19 mark, assisted by Alejandro Castillo, bringing the match to 3-1.
However, the Storm had an answer when senior
Jovanny Hernandez knocked in his second goal of the season off a penalty kick in the 69th minute of play. With the score locked at 3-2 and a fresh breath of life for SNU, OBU was still too much as Alejandro Castillo put a seal on the match with a penalty kick goal at the 77th minute.
Southern Nazarene will return to action next Thursday as they travel to Hays, Kansas to take on Fort Hayes State (10-4-1, 9-1-1 GAC). Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
