Tying with Greyhounds

Southern Nazarene ties Eastern New Mexico 1-1 in 2OT

BETHANY, Okla. — It took a full two overtimes before the game was decided against Southern Nazarene and Eastern Mexico. They settled for a 1-1 tie.

The Crimson Storm (0-1-1) and Greyhounds (0-1-1) each fired over 25 shots for the game, and none of them found the goal for either side. The Greyhounds were awarded a penalty kick in the 43rd minute, as Mitchell Meisinger capitalized, giving Eastern New Mexico a 1-0 lead into halftime.

After a gritty second half that saw three yellow cards, Southern Nazarene was awarded a penalty kick after Shane Kiddie was fouled inside the goalie box. Pedro Garcia took the shot for the Storm, and found the back of the net, leveling the score at 1. There were two ten-minute overtime periods that followed, and neither team was able to score.

Jeff Ray had a second straight game of double-digit saves with 10, as the Greyhounds fired 11 shots on goal for the game. Christian Hernandez had three shots on goal for the Crimson Storm.

Southern Nazarene will play its final leg of a three-game home stretch next Tuesday, when they host Mid-American Christian at 7 p.m.
