Storm Give Bisons Scare at GAC Championships

SNU falls in shootout at Harding

SEARCY, Ark. — With just eight minutes left to play in the semifinals of the Great American Conference Championships, Southern Nazarene could see its first finals appearance as it led 2-1. Harding though knotted the game at 2-2 in the 84th minute to force overtime.

After two overtimes, the match went to penalty kicks where Harding advanced, 4-3.

Pedro Garcia put the first one home, but Harding's Christian Ramos tied the shootout at 1-1. Allen Armstrong took the second shot for SNU, but was stopped by Michael Wasson and the Bison's Jonathan Curnutt made it 2-1 with a successful attempt. Keegan Radichel also missed for the Storm and Harding's Matheus Ribeiro gave Harding a 3-1 lead as he found the back of the net. Jace Peckham kept hope alive for SNU as he cut it to 3-2 and Dakota Ellicot blocked Andre Cunha's shot. Freddy DiNang tied it at 3-3 and that set the stage for Jason Diaz who sent the Bisons on the finals as he slid one past Ellicot for the shootout win.

SNU scored first in the 16th minute when Garcia found the back of the net off a free kick from 25 yards out to put the Crimson Storm (2-14-2) up 1-0. The Bisons (7-6-4) got a gift with just seconds left in the first half on an own goal to end half at 1-1.

It took the Storm just 30 seconds for Garcia to notch his second gaol of the game off a DiNang cross as she buried it from 19 yards out to the left corner. SNU held that lead for nearly 40 minutes before Harding tied it.

The Bisons outshot the Storm 37-6 and put 16 of its shots on goal compared to just two by SNU. Ellicot finished with career-high 14 saves and Wasson didn't have a save.
