BETHANY, Okla. — Natasha Fuentes set a set a school record with 14 saves, but Southern Nazarene could not overcome the Bulldogs of Southwestern Oklahoma State in a 2-0 loss on Thursday night.
Â
The Crimson Storm (4-7-0, 1-4-0 GAC) took just 12 shots on the night, with just five landing on goal. On the other hand, the Bulldogs took 26 shots on the night, with 17 landing on goal. Both totals set new season-highs given up by the SNU defense, as SWOSU controlled the ball for what seemed like the entire match.
Â
Both teams were held scoreless in the first half, but the Bulldogs were able to strike in the 63
rd minute on a penalty kick to break the tie. The Crimson Storm had most of their offensive chances in the second half, with eight of their shots coming after the intermission. However, SNU just could not break through the tough SWOSU defense, and the Bulldogs were able to add another late goal in the 88
th minute to ice the game.
Â
Hannah Robinson and
Shanae Vasquez led the Crimson Storm in shots, each taking three on the night.
Kelsi Bussert and
Brianna Evans added two shots as well.
Â
Fuentes, as mentioned before, set a new school record with 14 saves and was just three off the Great American Conference record, which was set by Northwestern Oklahoma State's Caitlin Thorpe in 2012.Â
